Ο μεγαλύτερος λευκός καρχαρίας που έχει θεαθεί ποτέ εμφανίστηκε ανοιχτά της Χαβάης (βίντεο)

Ενθουσιασμό έχει προκαλέσει στους επιστήμονες η εμφάνιση ενός λευκού καρχαρία ανοικτά της Χαβάης, πρώτον γιατί  σπάνια απαντώνται μεγάλοι λευκοί (Carcharodon carcharias) στη Χαβάη, καθώς τα νερά εκεί είναι συνήθως υπερβολικά ζεστά για τα γούστα τους και δεύτερον γιατί ο συγκεκριμένος ήταν γιγαντιαίος, ένας από τους μεγαλύτερους καρχαρίες που έχει δει ποτέ άνθρωπος. 

Μία ομάδα δυτών είχε την πολυτέλεια να κολυμπήσει στο πλάι αυτού του τρομερού θηλυκού καρχαρία, μήκους έξι μέτρων, με σημάδια παρόμοια με αυτά του διάσημου Deep Blue, ενός από τους μεγαλύτερους καρχαρίες που έχουν θεαθεί ποτέ, ο οποίος έχει γίνει ντοκιμαντέρ και έχει δικό του λογαριασμό στο Twitter.

Μάλιστα, πολλοί ειδικοί υποστηρίζουν ότι πρόκειται για τον ίδιο καρχαρία – πριν εντοπιστεί στη Χαβάη, ο μεγάλος λευκός είχε επίσης καταγραφεί σε βίντεο τον Ιούλιο του 2018 κοντά στο νησί Guadalupe, έξω από τη δυτική ακτή της χερσονήσου Baja California του Μεξικό.

I waited quietly, patiently, observing as she swam up to the dead sperm whale carcass and then slowly to me passing close enough I gently put my hand out to maintain a small space so her girth could pass. I know some people criticize touch but what some don’t realize is that sometimes sharks seek touch, she swam away escorted by two rough-toothed dolphins who danced around her over to one of my @oneoceandiving shark research vessels and proceeded to use it as a scratching post, passing up feeding for another need. Ο καρχαρίας εμφανίστηκε απροειδοποίητα την Τρίτη, καθώς ανυποψίαστοι μικρότεροι καρχαρίες-τίγρεις απολάμβαναν ένα λουκούλλειο γεύμα: κατασπάραζαν το πτώμα μιας φάλαινας σε αποσύνθεση, κοντά στο νησί Οάχου.

«Βλέπαμε μερικούς (καρχαρίες-τίγρεις) όταν έφθασε, κι όλοι οι υπόλοιποι καρχαρίες έγιναν καπνός. Τότε, άρχισε να τρίβεται πάνω στο σκάφος», αφηγήθηκε η Όσιαν Ράμζι, δύτρια, στην εφημερίδα Honolulu Star-Advertiser.  «Ήταν απλά ένας ευγενικός γίγαντας που ήθελε να χρησιμοποιήσει το σκάφος μας για να ξυστεί», εξήγησε. 

Η Ράμζι, επαγγελματίας δύτρια και ειδική στους καρχαρίες, που δίνει αγώνα για την προστασία τους, κολύμπησε πλάι-πλάι με τον θηλυκό καρχαρία για «μεγάλο μέρος της ημέρας» και η ομάδα τράβηξε καθηλωτικά πλάνα από τη συνάντηση.

Κατά τη Ράμζι ο καρχαρίας, που υπολόγισε πως είναι ηλικίας τουλάχιστον πενήντα ετών και ζυγίζει κάπου δυόμισι τόνους, ήταν «σοκαριστικά φαρδύς», διότι μάλλον κυοφορεί.
